Dolphin Swimming

DURATION: 2.5 Hours

Because Hectors Dolphins are only found in New Zealand they are also becoming known as the New Zealand Dolphin with the hope that this will lift their international profile alongside the likes of our iconic Kiwi.

From Akaroa you will join a scheduled boat to swim with the worlds smallest, rarest and friendliest dolphin.  Located within the sheltered harbour of french influenced Akaroa  and the crater of an extinct flooded volcano. This is the only place on the planet where you can swim with the Hector’s Dolphin.

Itinerary

9.15 am

Depart from you Annandale Villa or Lodge

10:30 am

​Arrive for a full induction and safety briefing before departing on your scheduled swimming adventure.  You will be provided with a full body wetsuit, booties, (mask and snorkel - optional).  Please arrive wearing your swim wear under your clothes to speed up departure.

Board your swim with the dolphins boat to experience the worlds smallest and rarest Hector dolphin in its natural environment.  This trip is only available in Akaroa’s volcanic crater lake and many say this trip is a lifetime highlight.

Enjoy your picnic lunch on Akaroa's waterfront or alternatively enjoy dining at one of Akaroa’s many restaurants.

NOTE a basic level of fitness and the ability to swim 50m is required.  Minimum age 8 years.

Afternoon at leisure in French inspired Akaroa - a town where there was an early attempt by the French to colonise NZ.  Today Akaroa retains much of that flavour and is filled with great cafes, shops and restaurants, plus nature walks and adventures on the harbour.  Well worth spending some time.
